Communications Officer
Warrant Officer Daren Parfitt has been in the RAF Air Cadets for 25 years – five years as a Civilian Instructor (CI) then a Warrant Officer, one of the last few before the role of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers were introduced.
After being a cadet, he joined the RAF as an Aerial Erector ( Rigger ) a specialised job working at heights on a large variety of antennas the RAF use from High powered HF to UHF / VHF for ground & ground to air communications, also doing things like anti corrosion work on Radars, building & maintaining Radomes to the technical side of Fiber Optics.
With the RAF, WO Parfitt served in Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Germany & worked at most of the RAF bases in the UK servicing antennas from the Shetland Islands to Cornwall. He was also detached to two Royal Navy Ships.
WO Parfitt has gained give Sport Coaching awards, NRA Club Instructor coaching teams at Bisley & Pirbright, attended many camps at RIAT, assisted with First Aid Assessments for over 10 years, completed a Squadron Commanders Course and headed the Radio Training for No 1 Welsh Air Cadets for over three years.
