Squadron Leader Martin Christlieb

Adventure Training Technical Officer

artin Christlieb joined 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron Air Cadets in 2006 and was commissioned in 2008. Martin quickly got drawn into Adventure Training and completed his Basic Expedition Leader’s Award and Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Assessor. Sqn Ldr Christlieb was appointed Wing Adventure Technical Training Officer for Thames Valley Wing in 2010. Trail cycle supervisor was added to the CV in 2010 and Mountain Leader (ML) followed in 2011.

Looking for a new challenge, Sqn Ldr Christlieb took up climbing after qualifying as an ML. The bug quickly took hold and he qualified as a Climbing Wall Instructor and Abseil Instructor in 2014. Martin’s latest qualification, Climbing Wall Development Instructor, was achieved just before COVID hit.

Sqn Ldr Christlieb was Officer Commanding 136 Chipping Norton Squadron ATC from 2012-2016, and handed over the role of WATTO in 2019 when he accepted the challenge of being a Sector Commander for North Oxfordshire. He was made Deputy Region Adventure Technical Training Officer for South West Region Royal Air Force Air Cadets Air in 2019, a post he still holds.

Sqn Ldr Christlieb’s day-job is as the Public and Policy Engagement Lead for the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford. He supports researchers to tell public audiences and policy makers plain English stories about their research and its importance for future healthcare.
