I’m Group Captain Rog Simon, the Regional Commandant for the Wales and West Region and I am lucky enough to lead this Region.
The Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) is the premier uniformed cadet organisation in the United Kingdom with over 40,000 cadets and 15,000 highly trained adult members of staff. Cadets aged 12-19 have the opportunity to take part in a bewildering array of fun activities including flying, gliding, target shooting, radio communications, fieldcraft, sport and adventure training at almost zero cost! We provide amazing life opportunities and nationally recognised training qualifications to all cadets and volunteers. Many of our ex-air cadets choose to pursue successful careers in the RAF, or other aviation related organisations, while others re-join the RAFAC as volunteers.
As one of the six Regions that make up the Air Training Corps, we include Squadrons from across all of Wales, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Merseyside, the Isle of Man and even Cyprus.
We have approximately 1,500 staff members and 5,000 cadets organised within a total of six Wings and 150 Squadrons who meet twice a week, providing valuable training opportunities for young people. This means that wherever you are in the Region, there is usually an Air Cadet unit near you.
